The curtains you choose for your home will help to tie your colour scheme together, ultimately shaping the overall look and feel of your space. Eyelet curtains are a popular (and stylish) choice, are available in a range of patterns and colourways, and are some of the easiest on the market to install.
Eyelet curtains are made with metal rings that thread straight onto a curtain pole. 'Modern and contemporary, eyelet curtains will make a dramatic feature of your window thanks to the deep folds of fabric which run in uniform lines from top to bottom,' says Yvonne Keal, senior product manager at Hillarys. 'They hang in soft uniform folds that look neat and tidy, whether they're open or closed.'
Eyelet curtains can complement minimalist, contemporary decor and 'do not require as much fabric as other headings, so bold prints look dramatic', says Yvonne.
'They’re ideal if you’ve got a limited amount of wall space either side of your windows, making your windows feel taller and grander than they really are by fitting your curtain pole as close to your ceiling as possible. Floor to ceiling length curtains will further help to trick the eye and add a sense of luxury.'
You'll need to measure the width and the drop. When measuring the width, the pole should be hung about 15cm above the window, and be 15-20cm wider on each side. When measuring the drop, measure from the top of the pole to allow for the fabric heading above the pole. Here's a handy guide on how to measure curtains.
Once you've measured your curtains and installed your curtain pole, you'll need to hang them up. Luckily, eyelet curtains are easy to hang and can be installed in a few simple steps.
Firstly, gather the curtains into their pleats before you thread them onto the pole. Make sure you match up all of the rings and that the first and last rings are pointing inwards. Once you've done this, you'll need to remove one end of the pole from its bracket so you can thread the curtains onto it. Next, thread the rings through the pole until they are all in. Once you've threaded them through, you can place the pole back in the bracket.
'The easiest way to clean your eyelet curtains is to vacuum them using the soft brush attachment of your vacuum cleaner that is designed for furniture and upholstery,' says Yvonne. 'Doing this regularly will help keep them free from dust or pet hair that might accumulate over time.'
